Karthik Venkataraman wins 61st India Chess Championship

Andhra Pradesh GM Karthik Venkataraman is the winner of the 61st India Chess Championship organised by the Haryana Chess Association at RPS International School in Gurugram, Haryana on 17-27 August 2024. The eleven-round Swiss competition attracted 341 competitors from all around India, with a prize pool of thirty lakhs rupees, or roughly USD 35,000. 20 GMs, 11 IMs and 2 WGMs took part from various states and units across India.

Karthik (in center) won the trophy and a cash prize of six lakhs rupees. He had also won the tournament in 2022. He won his final-round against Guha Mitrabh.
