The 31-year-old chess prodigy, P Shyaamnikhil from Tamil Nadu finally secured the third and final GM norm at the prestigious 2024 Dubai Police Masters Chess Tournament. He is now the 85th chess grandmaster from India. He earned the International Master (IM) title in 2011.
Even though he had earned two GM norms and the necessary 2500 ELO rating points back in 2012, he had failed to obtain the third norm for more than ten years. But before the start of the Dubai event, Shyaamnikhil needed just one win and eight draws to attain the GM title.
