Viswanathan Anand won Leon Masters champion for the 10th time

Viswanathan Anand, the five-time world champion defeated Jaime Santos Latasa from Spain with a score of 3-1 in the finals.

This was Anand’s tenth title in León. His first Leon masters title came in 1996.

It was a 4-player knockout tournament featuring Arjun Erigaisi, Vishy Anand, Veselin Topalov and Jaime Santos.

The drawing of game lots resulted in Vishy Anand facing Veselin Topalov in the first semifinal and Arjun Erigaisi facing Jaime Santos in the second semifinal. Anand defeated Topalov by a 2½-1½ score in the first semifinal. In the second semifinal, Arjun suffered a defeat against Santos Latasa with a score of 1.5-2.5.

Each match consisted of four rapid games (20 minutes for the game plus 10-second increments). In case of a draw, two blitz games followed (5 minutes + 3-second increments) if the tie still remained, the match winner would be decided in Armageddon match.
